Yulin Yuan is an interdisciplinary artist based in Virginia, Chinese-born and South Africa-raised. She uses paper, collage, video, and photographyto explore identity and mythology through family history and diaspora communities. Yulin’s work deconstructs intimate spaces on and offline. She obtained her BFA at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and MFA at James Madison University in the United States. Yulin’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with exhibitions in the United States, China, South Africa, and South Korea. She is also the recipient of the VMFA 2024-2025 Professional Fellowship.
